Upcycled decoupage bottles

Upcycled arts and crafts is something Ive been researching for a little while. I love the idea of creating something new out of something that would have been thrown away and something that intrigued me was the art of decoupage. Decorating something with paper napkins. People use this method on chairs, tables, trinket boxes.... and old wine bottles.

I loved it! Re-use old bottles and turn them into something pretty! So I ordered in the white acrylic and mod podge and chose a pretty napkin with poppies on it. The process was pretty simple. First clean and remove labels from an old bottle. I then used a sponge to dab my bottle with white paint covering it with multiple layers until it was fully white. Next was adding my napkin design. I peeled off the top layer and gently tore around the poppy images by softening the edges with water. I then added a layer of mod podge using my sponge onto the bottle and applied my napkin pieces. I then gently went over the napkin with another layer of mod podge and left it all to dry.

I was thrilled with the final result, I didn't expect my first attempt to go so well but it looked brilliant. I did find the mod podge still seems a little tacky, so I will get hold of a finishing spray. I also want to tie some lace or twine around the top to give it that finishing touch. I loved it so much I have now ordered more napkins and have a stash of bottles and jars waiting to be done! I am thinking about starting this up as a hobby and selling my bottles with a small portion of sales going to charity, what do you think? Would they sell?
